Doctrine of man Series (Part 21) – Man’s fears
Introduction
I checked Wikipedia. There are hundreds of phobias. And phobias are technically irrational fears. There are thousands of reasons for worry and fear. Google says 85% of the things people worry about never happen. Well right now what I am doing is rationalizing with you about fear, and as you can tell, it isn’t helping.
You’re still wondering if you may just be the “lucky” statistic. Rationalising is not enough. We need faith.
We need to see what fear is really about and take our stand in the battle against fear, by arming ourselves with gospel truths that help set us free.
1. The little fears
We will start talking about the little fears. Like spiders. So little, yet so much fear. I am holding onto this one, just to be on the safe side.
Or maybe you worry you’ll mess up a job interview? Perhaps you’re afraid you won’t pass an exam. Maybe you worry about arriving late for an appointment. (No – who am I kidding, we’re in Madagascar!)
Being worried about every little thing is often rooted in pride. You are anxious to get it right. Fear of some kind of failure is often based on how we think something will reflect on us. Some people are control-freaks and they want to be able to ensure everything is a certain way. The world is very hard for perfectionists control freaks. If ordinary life wasn’t crazy enough we have 2020.
While I am okay with hanging onto a fear of spiders, no one should be living a constantly anxious life.
The answer is to constantly entrust everything to Christ. Not just once, but again and again. I have a tendency to worry and want to control. I have to remind myself over and over to let go and let God.
Php 4:6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
Php 4:7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Php 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
It is a battle of the mind. It is not just trying to take captive every thought and bring it into submission to Christ (which is a good thing!), but we must pray! Prayer is a very short path away from anxiety and toward peace. Prayer with thanksgiving, not panicking. This is how we handle day-to-day stresses. Put faith in God. Exercise discipline over a restless mind – turn it to that which is lovely, commendable.
Next we get some more deeply rooted fears…
2. The real fears
While not everyone is afraid of spiders, there are other fears that are common to almost all man. These are fears that tend to have roots. They go into our souls and have some kind of an abiding grip over us. God wants us to be delivered out of these.
Psalm 34:4 I sought the LORD, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.
What are some of these deeper fears?
a) Fear of evil, the devil, superstition
I could call this a fear of the dark. I mean that is pretty generic. The answer is Jesus. When you know Jesus personally, these fears are put down. When I first responded to Jesus calling me, and I asked him to live inside of me and be my Lord and Saviour and forgive my sins, I felt darkness lift. Later I discovered I had become friends with the most powerful Almighty God who had made me alive in His Son Jesus.
Jesus can control the weather, he can heal the sick, he can cast out demons, he can turn what was intended for harm or curse into a blessing (see Deuteronomy 23:5 and the book of Job too).
Psa 23:4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
Stay close to the Shepherd. Let him use his rod and staff in your life. Don’t do life alone.
b) Fear of lack
We all start off thinking we have to provide for ourselves. Everyone is an orphan before they get adopted into God’s family. The old way of self-preservation and self-reliance leaves us fearing lack.
The fear of lack is at the root of the poverty-minded person. This robs us of generosity and the ability to give and rest. People work and never have enough, they save and squirrel away for themselves, and they fear the exchange rate or the thief.
Pro 18:10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.
Pro 18:11 A rich man's wealth is his strong city, and like a high wall in his imagination.
The poverty mind-set is one of self-reliance and lack of faith in God as provider. As a Christian you need a bigger revelation of your adoption and the Father heart of God. When we lack this revelation we try to withhold. We are stingy and stressed.
Luk 15:31 And he said to him, 'Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours.
Here is the result of faith in God:
Psa 37:25 I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread.
Psa 37:26 He is ever lending generously, and his children become a blessing.
c) Fear of harm, personal security
Once we had a break in and I felt a bit traumatised for a few months after that.
I found healing by meditating on this one verse:
Psa 4:8 In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.
We need a faith that will trust God even to the point of death.
Rev 12:11 And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.
Psa 139:16 Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.
He holds our lives. Nothing and no one can snatch us out of his hand.
3. The real deep fear
Of all the fears that hurt us the most, fear of rejection is the really deep one. It drives all religion and efforts of man to make himself worthy. And yet we know we are not worthy. We fear being found out, exposed, ashamed, rejected.
A man wants to be respected and honoured for his strength, but he knows some part of him is broken and weak. He is driven to compete and brag. A woman is asking if she is beautiful. She lives under the curse of comparison. She shrinks. The real cry is for love and acceptance just as you are. And the good news of the gospel is God, in spite of us, loves us and gave himself to clothe us in his righteousness, his beauty and strength.
The deepest fear of rejection is healed by understanding the gospel. In the gospel we discover that while we were yet his enemies, he loved us and died for us.
• We are chosen (John 15:6; Ephesians 1:4,11)
• We are adopted (Galatians 4:4-5)
• We are accepted in Christ
• We are unconditionally loved
• We will never be forsaken (Hebrews 13:5-6; Romans 8:37-39)
1Jn 4:15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.
1Jn 4:16 So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.
1Jn 4:17 By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world.
1Jn 4:18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.
1Jn 4:19 We love because he first loved us.
The gospel heals us profoundly, not academically or intellectually, but truly, when we hear God say: “You are mine!”
4. The right fear
Matthew 10:28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
This is the most important fear. We should fear the Lord. If we are not right with Him, we will not be at peace with ourselves or in this hazardous world. The bible says the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. I want to urge you to consider your eternity and fear God. This fear is a holy reverence and a repentance from trying to make it on your own. The glorious result is you find peace and rest in Him.
Amazing grace, How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now I am found,
Was blind, but now I see.
'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved.
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed.
Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come,
'Tis grace has brought me safe thus far
And grace will lead me home.
Conclusion
We should be a people who are free and are being made free. What is your fear? Take it to God. If you are not yet a Christian, I urge you to receive Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. Put you faith and trust in him for life and death. He is faithful.

Psa 34:5 Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed.
Psa 34:6 This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him and saved him out of all his troubles.
Psa 34:7 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.
Psa 34:8 Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!
Psa 34:9 Oh, fear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear him have no lack!

Doctrine de l’homme (Partie 21) - Les peurs de l'homme

Introduction
J'ai vérifié sur Wikipedia; il existe des centaines de phobies. Et les phobies sont des peurs techniquement irrationnelles. Il y a des milliers de raisons de s'inquiéter et de craindre. Google affirme que 85% des choses qui inquiètent les gens ne se produisent jamais. Eh bien, je ne suis pas en train de rationaliser au sujet de la peur avec vous, et comme vous pouvez le voir, cela n'aide pas.
Vous vous demandez si vous faites partie du “bon” côté de la statistique. La rationalisation ne suffit pas. Nous avons besoin de foi.
Nous devons voir ce qu'est réellement la peur et prendre position dans la lutte contre la peur, en nous armant des vérités de l'Évangile qui nous aident à nous libérer.
1. Les petites peurs
Nous allons commencer à parler des petites peurs. Comme les araignées. Si petites, mais suscitant tant de peur. Je m’en tiens à ce sujet, juste pour être du bon côté!
Ou peut-être que vous craignez de gâcher un entretien d'embauche ? Peut-être que vous avez peur de ne pas réussir un examen. Vous vous inquiétez peut-être d'arriver en retard à un rendez-vous. (Non, je plaisante, nous sommes à Madagascar!)
Être inquiet au sujet de chaque petite chose est souvent enraciné dans la fierté, l’orgueil. Vous êtes désireux de bien faire les choses. La peur de quelque sorte d'échec est souvent fondée sur la façon dont nous pensons que quelque chose se reflétera sur nous. Certaines personnes sont des maniaques du contrôle et elles veulent être en mesure de s'assurer que tout se passe d'une certaine manière. Le monde est très dur pour les perfectionnistes qui veulent contrôler les monstres! Si la vie ordinaire n'était pas assez folle, l’année 2020 est là pour nous!
Bien que je comprenne que l’on puisse avoir une phobie des araignées, personne ne devrait vivre une vie constamment anxieuse.
La réponse est de constamment tout confier à Christ. Pas seulement une fois, mais encore et encore. J'ai tendance à m'inquiéter et à vouloir contrôler. Je dois encore et encore me rappeler de lâcher prise et de laisser Dieu faire.
Philippiens 4:6-8
6 Ne vous inquiétez de rien; mais en toute chose faites connaître vos besoins à Dieu par des prières et des supplications, avec des actions de grâces.
7 Et la paix de Dieu, qui surpasse toute intelligence, gardera vos coeurs et vos pensées en Jésus Christ.
8 Au reste, frères, que tout ce qui est vrai, tout ce qui est honorable, tout ce qui est juste, tout ce qui est pur, tout ce qui est aimable, tout ce qui mérite l'approbation, ce qui est vertueux et digne de louange, soit l'objet de vos pensées.
C'est une bataille de l'esprit. Il ne s'agit pas seulement d'essayer de capturer chaque pensée et de la soumettre au Christ (ce qui est une bonne chose!), mais nous devons prier! La prière est un chemin très court, à quelques pas de l'anxiété vers la paix. Une prière avec action de grâces, sans paniquer. C'est ainsi que nous gérons le stress quotidien. Mettez la foi en Dieu. Exercez la discipline sur un esprit agité - tournez-le vers ce qui est beau, louable.
Ensuite, nous avons des peurs dont les racines sont plus profondes ...
2. Les véritables craintes
Bien que tout le monde n'ait pas peur des araignées, il existe d'autres peurs qui sont communes à presque tous les hommes. Ce sont des peurs qui ont tendance à avoir des racines. Elles entrent dans nos âmes et ont une sorte d’emprise permanente sur nous. Dieu veut que nous soyons délivrés de ces dernières.
Psaume 34:4 (5)
5 J’ai cherché l’Eternel, et il m’a répondu, il m’a délivré de toutes mes frayeurs.
Quelles sont certaines de ces peurs plus profondes?
a) Peur du mal, du diable, superstition
Je pourrais appeler cela une peur de l’obscurité, des ténèbres. Je veux dire que c'est assez générique. La réponse est Jésus. Lorsque vous connaissez Jésus personnellement, ces craintes sont dissipées. Quand j'ai répondu pour la première fois à l’appel de Jésus et que je lui ai demandé de vivre en moi et d'être mon Seigneur et Sauveur et de pardonner mes péchés, j'ai senti les ténèbres s’en aller. Plus tard, j'ai découvert que j'étais devenu ami avec le Dieu Tout-Puissant qui m'avait fait vivre en Son Fils Jésus.
Jésus peut contrôler le temps, il peut guérir les malades, il peut chasser les démons, il peut transformer ce qui était destiné au mal ou à la malédiction en une bénédiction (voir Deutéronome 23:5 et le livre de Job aussi).
Psaume 23:4
4 Quand je marche dans la vallée de l'ombre de la mort, Je ne crains aucun mal, car tu es avec moi: Ta houlette et ton bâton me rassurent.
Restez près du berger. Laissez-le utiliser sa houlette et son bâton dans votre vie. Ne vivez pas votre vie seul.
b) Peur de manquer de quelque chose
Nous commençons tous à penser que nous devons subvenir à nos besoins. Tout le monde est orphelin avant d'être adopté dans la famille de Dieu. L'ancien instinct de préservation de soi et d'autonomie nous fait craindre le manque.
La peur du manque est à l'origine de la mentalité de pauvreté de beaucoup de personnes. Cela nous prive de la générosité et de la capacité de donner et se reposer. Les gens travaillent et n'ont jamais assez, ils économisent, épargnent et amassent pour eux-mêmes, et ils craignent la fluctuation du change ou le voleur.
Proverbes 18:10-11
10 Le nom de l'Eternel est une tour fortifiée: le juste s'y réfugie et se trouve en sécurité.
11 La fortune du riche est sa forteresse: dans son imagination, elle est comme une haute muraille.
L'état d'esprit de pauvreté est celui de l'autonomie et du manque de foi en Dieu comme pourvoyeur. En tant que chrétien, vous avez besoin d'une plus grande révélation de votre adoption et du cœur de Père de Dieu. Quand nous manquons de cette révélation, nous essayons de conserver. Nous sommes radins et stressés.
Luc 15:31
31 Mon enfant, lui dit le père, tu es toujours avec moi, et tout ce que j'ai est à toi;
Voici le résultat de la foi en Dieu:
Psaumes 37:25-26
25 J’ai été jeune, j’ai vieilli, et je n’ai pas vu le juste être abandonné ni ses descendants mendier leur pain.
26 Il est toujours compatissant, il prête, et sa descendance est bénie.
c) Peur du préjudice, sécurité personnelle
Une fois, nous avons été victime d’une effraction et je me suis senti un peu traumatisé pendant quelques mois après cet événement.
J'ai trouvé la guérison en méditant sur ce seul verset:
Psaume 4:8 (9)
9 Je me couche et aussitôt je m’endors en paix, car c’est toi seul, Eternel, qui me donnes la sécurité dans ma demeure.
Nous avons besoin d'une foi qui fera confiance à Dieu jusqu'à la mort.
Apocalypse 12:11
11 Ils l'ont vaincu grâce au sang de l'Agneau et grâce à la parole de leur témoignage, et ils n'ont pas aimé leur vie au point de craindre la mort.
Psaume 139:16
16 Je n’étais encore qu’une masse informe, mais tes yeux me voyaient, et sur ton livre étaient inscrits tous les jours qui m’étaient destinés avant qu’un seul d’entre eux n’existe.
Il tient nos vies. Rien ni personne ne peut nous arracher de sa main.
3. La véritable peur profonde
De toutes les peurs qui nous blessent le plus, la peur du rejet est la plus profonde. Elle motive toute religion et tous les efforts de l'homme à vouloir se rendre digne. Et pourtant, nous savons que nous ne sommes pas dignes. Nous craignons d'être dénudés, exposés, embarrassés, rejetés.
Un homme veut être respecté et honoré pour sa force, mais il sait qu'une partie de lui est brisée et faible. Il est déterminé à rivaliser et à se vanter. Une femme (se) demande si elle est belle. Elle vit sous la malédiction de la comparaison. Elle rétrécit. Le véritable cri est pour l'amour et l'acceptation de soi. Et la bonne nouvelle de l'Évangile, c'est que Dieu, malgré ce que nous sommes, nous aime et s'est donné pour nous revêtir de sa justice, de sa beauté et de sa force.
La peur la plus profonde du rejet est guérie par la compréhension de l'Évangile. Dans l'Évangile, nous découvrons que, alors que nous étions encore ses ennemis, il nous a aimés et est mort pour nous.
• Nous sommes élus, choisis (Jean 15:6; Éphésiens 1:4,11)
• Nous sommes adoptés (Galates 4:4-5)
• Nous sommes acceptés en Christ
• Nous sommes aimés inconditionnellement
• Nous ne serons jamais abandonnés (Hébreux 13:5-6; Romains 8:37-39)
L'Évangile nous guérit profondément, non pas académiquement ou intellectuellement, mais vraiment, quand nous entendons Dieu dire: «Tu es à moi!»
4. La bonne crainte
Matthieu 10:28
28 Ne craignez donc pas ceux qui peuvent tuer le corps, mais qui n’ont pas le pouvoir de faire mourir l’âme. Craignez plutôt celui qui peut vous faire périr corps et âme dans l’enfer.
C'est la crainte la plus importante. Nous devons craindre le Seigneur. Si nous ne sommes pas alignés à lui, nous ne serons pas en paix ni avec nous-mêmes ni dans ce monde dangereux. La Bible dit que la crainte du Seigneur est le commencement de la sagesse. Je veux vous inviter à prendre conscience de votre éternité et à craindre Dieu. Cette crainte est une sainte révérence et le fait de cesser d'essayer de réussir par vous-même. Le glorieux résultat est que vous trouvez la paix et le repos en Lui.
Grâce étonnante, au son si doux,
Qui sauva le misérable que j'étais ;
J'étais perdu mais je suis retrouvé,
J'étais aveugle, maintenant je vois.
C'est la grâce qui m'a enseigné la crainte,
Et la grâce a soulagé mes craintes.
Combien précieuse cette grâce m'est apparue
À l'heure où pour la première fois j'ai cru.
De nombreux dangers, filets et pièges
J'ai déjà traversé.
C'est la grâce qui m'a protégé jusqu'ici,
Et la grâce me mènera à bon port.
Conclusion
Nous devrions être un peuple libre et affranchi. Quelle est votre peur? Apportez-la à Dieu. Si vous n'êtes pas encore chrétien, je vous exhorte à recevoir Jésus comme votre Seigneur et Sauveur. Mettez-vous foi et confiance en Lui pour la vie et la mort. Il est fidèle.
Psaumes 34:4-9
4 (34:5) J'ai cherché l'Éternel, et il m'a répondu; Il m'a délivré de toutes mes frayeurs.
5 (34:6) Quand on tourne vers lui les regards, on est rayonnant de joie, Et le visage ne se couvre pas de honte.
6 (34:7) Quand un malheureux crie, l'Éternel entend, Et il le sauve de toutes ses détresses.
7 (34:8) L'ange de l'Éternel campe autour de ceux qui le craignent, Et il les arrache au danger.
8 (34:9) Sentez et voyez combien l'Éternel est bon! Heureux l'homme qui cherche en lui son refuge!
9 (34:10) Craignez l'Éternel, vous ses saints! Car rien ne manque à ceux qui le craignent.
Que Dieu vous bénisse cette semaine et qu'il vous garde en parfaite paix pendant que vous fixez votre esprit sur Lui!​
